Country Corner Rocked by Irish Car Bombs

Several people were injured on Wednesday night as four Irish Car Bombs went off at the Country Corner on 25A. The drivers, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, were unidentified. President Shirley Strum Kenny and Dean Lawrence Martin both spoke out against Wednesday’s events.

Campus Smoking Ban to Take Effect Tuesday

The Smoking Ban Committee has voted to institute a campus-wide smoking ban to take effect on Tuesday. Committee Chair Eric Cahn said the move would create a safer environment for all students, faculty, and staff on the campus. It will also reduce global warming, a representative from the student group Breaking Away from Tobacco stated. Test runs of the ban have begun in certain areas on campus without incident.

Increased Stipend Turns Grads into Big Spenders

Last semester, President Shirley Strum Kenny announced that the graduate student stipend will be going up by $2,000 this year. The increase is meant to help graduate students make ends meet and to help keep Stony Brook stipends competitive. Many graduate students have fallen into debt, especially after a spike in bad break-ups led to boozers on the Velvet Lounge karaoke stage last year. But instead of using the extra cash responsibly, graduate students are choosing bombastic forms of self-expression.

President Soule and Editor Chanza Make-Up & Make-Out

In a turn of events leaving the campus community dumbfounded, Graduate Student Organization (GSO) President Ryan Soule and Eileen Chanza, Editor-In-Chief of the Graduate Magazine were found in a warm embrace behind the Humanities Building dumpsters, according to a source special to the Department of Sociology. The source did not reveal whether the embrace was Marxist in character.
